About Clinton County Literacy Foundation

Our purpose is to advocate
for literacy awareness.

Our advocacy work started in local laundromats as the Clinton County
Laundromat Library in November 2020. Volunteers purchased used
bookshelves and placed them in four laundromats around Clinton County with the blessing of laundromat owners.

We used social media and word of mouth to let others in the community know that we needed new and gently used children & books to place on the shelves.

We started as a free lending library, and as our supply of books increased, we became a source of free children & books for children to select books and take them home and start their own libraries there.

How to get involved

We are a group of volunteers helping to provide free books to people of all ages around the county. We invite everyone from the community to select books from our pop up libraries and take them home and start their own libraries.

You can donate new or gently used books and we will turn around and place them in our pop up libraries around the county. You can also host a book drive at your church, school, restaurant or business. Contact us and we’ll help you get started! You can also join our team of volunteers and help us spread the love of reading all around the county!

Our Services

Services we provide are related to increasing access to books for babies through adults.

  • Free delivery of books to schools for distribution at family events such as parent teacher conferences and family nights.
  • Free delivery of books to schools for teachers to add to their classroom library collection.
  • Set up at community events, such as farmer’s markets and trunk or treat, with books to give away for free.
  • Partner with local community organizations, such as schools, libraries, and United Way, to give books away as we support initiatives like summer reading programs and Read Across America.
  • Receive donations of gently used and new books.
  • Sharing information about other literacy initiatives, such as the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

Volunteers

We are completely organized by volunteers from around Clinton County.
